Case 40
Thrush / Canker
This was a 6 month old problem when he arrived at Step Ahead Farm. It was created due to a cavity on the
postierior lateral bulb of the heel not being cleaned properly.
After dealing with the superficial thrush, we discovered that the infection had penetrated through the
tissue between the Bulbs of the Heel. We have mentioned quite often that this is an area where infection
gets started, and when left untreated it can become internal, at which point the situation changes from
thrush to canker. The digital cushion, which has poor circulation, is usually the first point of attack when
canker is developing.
This issue was treated as an open wound, it cleaned up and healed nicely, and never had to return for
follow up treatments.
